SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. 1619 A Concurrent Resolution establishing a joint committee on weights and measures and providing for a legislative study, inquiry and investigation.

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas, the House of Rep- resentatives concurring therein: There is hereby established a joint committee on weights and measures. Such committee shall be composed of six senators who shall be appointed by the president of the senate and six representatives who shall be appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives, the members from each chamber to be four from the majority party and two from the minority party thereof. The speaker of the house of representatives shall appoint the chairperson of the joint committee and the president of the senate shall appoint the vice chair- person of the joint committee; and

Be it further resolved: That this joint committee shall make a legis- lative study, inquiry and investigation of problems with the administration of the weights and measures section within the inspection division of the department of agriculture, of the concerns, findings and recommenda- tions in the performance audit report of the legislative division of post audit entitled ``Reviewing the Department of Agriculture's Weights and Measures Enforcement Program'' (96-36, January 1996) and of legisla- tive, executive or other action which may be necessary to correct any such problems; and

Be it further resolved: That the joint committee on weights and meas- ures at the request of the chairperson of the joint committee and with the approval of the speaker of the house of representatives and the pres- ident of the senate is hereby authorized to exercise all the powers of compulsory process as provided for by K.S.A. 46-1001 et seq. and amend- ments thereto in connection with the committee's legislative study, in- quiry and investigation as set forth above; and

Be it further resolved: The joint committee on weights and measures shall make a report and its recommendations as a result of the joint com- mittee's study, inquiry and investigation to the 1996 regular session of the legislature prior to adjournment sine die; and

Be it further resolved: That the joint committee is hereby authorized to request the staff of the office of the revisor of statutes, the legislative research department, the division of legislative administrative services and the legislative division of post audit to provide such assistance as may be requested by the joint committee for the purposes of conducting the legislative study, inquiry and investigation.
