Journal of the Senate
THIRTIETH DAY
______
Senate Chamber, Topeka, Kansas |
Monday, February 21, 2000--2:30 p.m. |
The Senate was called to order by President Dick Bond.
The roll was called with thirty-nine senators present.
Senator Downey was excused.
Invocation by Chaplain Fred S. Hollomon:
Heavenly Father,
This is Presidents' Day and a presidential election year. While honoring Washington
and Lincoln, we are watching candidates running to be the first American President of
the third millennium A.D.
We pray, O God, that one of the candidates will turn out to have:
The honesty of an Abe Lincoln
The adventuresome spirit of a Theodore Roosevelt
The leadership ability of a Franklin Roosevelt
The common touch of a Harry Truman
The popularity of an Ike Eisenhower
The charisma of a John Kennedy
The social conscience of a Jimmy Carter
The communication skills of a Ronald Regan
(Just in case someone is keeping score, O God, the presidents I have listed contain
an equal number of Democrats and Republicans!)
I pray in Jesus' Name,
AMEN
PRESIDENTS' DAY OBSERVANCE
