Journal of the House
SECOND DAY
______
Hall of the House of Representatives, Topeka, KS,
Tuesday, January 13, 1998, 11:00 a.m.
The House met pursuant to adjournment with Speaker Shallenburger in the chair.
The roll was called with members 122 present.
Rep. Lloyd was excused on verified illness.
Reps. Carmody and Garner were excused on excused absence by the Speaker.
Prayer by Chaplain Washington:
Heavenly Father,
As we look to improve the state of the state, Matthew, chapter 22, and Your two
most important commands come to mind. Teach us to love You . . . which is the
first. Then from that perspective give each of us a healthy love for self.
On the second day of this new session, give us a new commitment to Your second
most important command. Motivate us to love others as we have learned to love
ourselves.
As the hours turn into days and weeks and months, let love prevail in these halls.
Like Your love for us, let it be a demonstrative love. Remind us to smile . . . to say
please, and to say thank you. Help us to love those seated and voting with us as well
as those on the other side. Lord we may not love what the person does but help us
to love the person.
Give us love and compassion for the people of this state . . . for the weak and
tired as well as the strong and energetic, for those who are for us and for those who
are against us. Give us a love like Yours . . . without prejudice.
Help us to see that when we improve the state of our love, we'll improve the state
of our state.
I come to You in the Name of Love. I come in the Name of Jesus. Amen and
Amen.
