SENATE RESOLUTION No. 1806
A Resolution in memory of Reynolds Shultz.

� � � WHEREAS,� Former Kansas Lieutenant Governor Reynolds "Ren"
Shultz died January 24, 2000, at age 78; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Reynolds Shultz was elected to the Kansas Senate in
1964 and 1968 and was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1970. He was
appointed as director-at-large of the Farmers Home Administration in
1974 but resigned to assist in the re-election of Senator Bob Dole. He
also worked in the successful campaign of 2nd District Congressman Jim
Jeffries; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Reynolds Shultz was active in various civic and commu-
nity organizations including the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Jef-
ferson County Historical Society, Jefferson County Extension Service,
Jefferson County 4-H, clerk of the local school board and as a member
of the board of governors for the Agricultural Hall of Fame; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Reynolds Shultz served in the U.S. Marine Corps during
World War II earning the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation
medals for service in the Marshall Islands and Saipan; and

� � � WHEREAS,� Reynolds Shultz married Donna L. Thompson in 1941.
After her death in 1985 he married Judy Nelson Mansfield; she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Guy Shultz; two daughters, Michele Ann
Fate and Jennie Washburn; two stepsons, Curt Mansfield and Brian
Mansfield, plus 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Now, there-
fore,

� � � Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas:�That we honor
Reynolds Schultz for his service to the state of Kansas and extend our
deepest sympathy to his family; and

� � � Be it further resolved:�That the Secretary of the Senate be directed
to provide an enrolled copy of this resolution to Mrs. Reynolds Shultz,
668 Wellmen Road, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
