10             A  CONCURRENT  RESOLUTION establishing October 28 as Legal
11             Assistants Day.

14             WHEREAS,  The Kansas Association of Legal Assistants was formed
15       in 1981 and was organized to meet the needs of Legal Assistants in Kansas
16       through the recognition of a system of professional credentials; and
17             WHEREAS,  The Kansas Association of Legal Assistants supports and
18       endorses formal legal education for Legal Assistants and offers continuing
19       legal education seminars and workshops specifically for Legal Assistants;
20       and
21             WHEREAS,  The Kansas Association of Legal Assistants supports and
22       endorses voluntary certification for Legal Assistants via the Certified Le-
23       gal Assistant (CLA) examination administered by the National Association
24       of Legal Assistants; and
25             WHEREAS,  Legal Assistants are a distinguishable group of persons
26       who assist attorneys in the delivery of legal services. Through formal ed-
27       ucation, training and experience, Legal Assistants have knowledge and
28       expertise regarding the legal system and of substantive and procedural
29       law which qualify them to do work of a legal nature under the direct
30       supervision of an attorney; and
31             WHEREAS,  Legal Assistants provide quality and affordable legal serv-
32       ices through attorneys and should be recognized as an important part of
33       the legal service delivery system; and
34             WHEREAS,  It is fitting to set aside a day each year honoring the
35       service of Legal Assistants: Now, therefore,
36             Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas, the House of Rep-
37       resentatives concurring therein: That the Legislature of the State of
38       Kansas recognizes the service provided to our society by Legal Assistants
39       and finds it appropriate to recognize October 28 of each year as Legal
40       Assistants Day.; and
41             Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of State is hereby di-
42       rected to send 10 enrolled copies of this resolution to Senator Greta
43       Goodwin at 420 E. 12th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156.
