9 AN ACT
relating to motor vehicles; providing for distinctive license
10 plates for persons who
are firefighters.

12 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Kansas:
13 Section
1. (a) Any owner or lessee of one or more passenger
vehicles
14 or trucks of a gross weight of 20,000
pounds or less, who is a resident of
15 the state of Kansas, and who submits
satisfactory proof to the director of
16 vehicles, in accordance with rules and
regulations adopted by the secre-
17 tary of revenue, that such person is a
firefighter, upon compliance with
18 the provisions of this section, may be
issued one distinctive license plate
19 for each such passenger vehicle or truck
designating such person as a
20 firefighter. Such license plates shall be
issued for the same period of time
21 as other license plates upon proper
registration and payment of the reg-
22 ular license fee as provided in K.S.A.
8-143, and amendments thereto.
23 (b) Any person
who is a firefighter may make application for such
24 distinctive license plates, not less than
60 days prior to such person's
25 renewal of registration date, on a form
prescribed and furnished by the
26 director of vehicles, and any applicant for
the distinctive license plates
27 shall furnish the director with proof as
the director shall require that the
28 applicant is a firefighter. Application for
the registration of a passenger
29 vehicle or truck and issuance of the
license plates under this section shall
30 be made by the owner or lessee in a manner
prescribed by the director
31 of vehicles upon forms furnished by the
director.
32 (c) No
registration of distinctive license plates issued under the au-
33 thority of this section shall be
transferable to any other person.
34 (d) Renewals of
registration under this section shall be made an-
35 nually, upon payment of the fee prescribed
in subsection (a), in the man-
36 ner prescribed in subsection (b) of K.S.A.
8-132, and amendments
37 thereto. No renewal of registration shall
be made to any applicant until
38 such applicant has filed with the director
a form as provided in subsection
39 (b). If such form is not filed, the
applicant shall be required to comply
40 with K.S.A. 8-143, and amendments thereto,
and return the distinctive
41 license plates to the county treasurer of
such person's residence.
42 Sec. 2. This act shall
take effect and be in force from and after its
43 publication in the statute book.
