9 AN ACT
concerning deer; relating to the taking thereof along state
10 highways.

12 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Kansas:
13 Section
1. (a) If a motor vehicle accident that occurs on a state
high-
14 way is caused by deer, the sheriff of the
county where the accident oc-
15 curred may request the secretary of
wildlife and parks to organize a deer
16 drive along such highway within the county.
Upon receipt of such request,
17 the secretary shall organize a deer drive
in the area located within 500
18 feet on each side of the highway. Such
drive shall be conducted under
19 the supervision of the department of
wildlife and parks. For the purpose
20 of the drive, it shall be lawful to use
spotlights or other artificial lights for
21 the taking of deer.
22 (b) Not less than
14 days before a drive is held pursuant to this sec-
23 tion, the department shall notify all
owners of the lands where the drive
24 will be held and must obtain the permission
of each such owner before
25 the drive may be conducted on such owner's
land.
26 Sec. 2. This act shall
take effect and be in force from and after its
27 publication in the statute book.
