10             A  CONCURRENT  RESOLUTION encouraging the observance of Oc-
11             tober 14 of each year as Dwight D. Eisenhower Day in the state of
12             Kansas.
13      
14             WHEREAS,  Dwight David Eisenhower, reared in Kansas, was the
15       Supreme Commander who led the Allied Expeditionary Forces to Victory
16       in World War II; and
17             WHEREAS,  General Eisenhower, whose home was Abilene, Kansas,
18       served as President of the United States of America from 1953 to 1961;
19       and
20             WHEREAS,  During his distinguished career as General of the Army
21       and as President, Dwight D. Eisenhower significantly and positively in-
22       fluenced the course of history; and
23             WHEREAS,  The recognition of Dwight D. Eisenhower's achieve-
24       ments can serve as inspiration to the young people of Kansas and to all
25       citizens of Kansas and of the United States; and
26             WHEREAS,  The state of Kansas desires to preserve and honor the
27       achievements of Dwight D. Eisenhower and to keep his inspiration and
28       legacy alive: Now, therefore,
29             Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas, the House of Rep-
30       resentatives concurring therein: That the Legislature encourages the
31       citizens of Kansas to participate in the observance of October 14 of each
32       year as Dwight D. Eisenhower Day in the State of Kansas; and
33             Be it further resolved: That the State Board of Education is directed
34       requested to work in concert with the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library
35       and the Eisenhower Foundation to develop programs and educational
36       opportunities for the young people of Kansas concerning the life and
37       times of Dwight D. Eisenhower; and
38             Be it further resolved: That the Division of Travel and Tourism of
39       the Department of Commerce and Housing shall assist the Dwight D.
40       Eisenhower Library and the Eisenhower Foundation to promote the Ei-
41       senhower legacy and the Eisenhower Library and Museum as an inter-
42       national cultural and educational center; and
43             Be it further resolved: That the Kansas State Historical Society
44       shall assist the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and the Eisenhower
45       Foundation to preserve the Eisenhower legacy; and
46             Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send
47       enrolled copies of this resolution to the State Board of Education, the
48       Commissioner of Education, the Secretary of Commerce and Housing
49       and to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and Eisenhower Foundation.
50             Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to
51       send enrolled copies of this resolution to John Eisenhower at 27318
52       Morris Road, Trappe, MD, 21673; the State Board of Education; the
53       Commissioner of Education; the Secretary of Commerce and Hous-
54       ing; the Executive Director of the Kansas State Historical Society;
55       the Director of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library; the Executive
56       Director of the Eisenhower Foundation at P.O. Box 295, Abilene,
57       Kansas, 67410; and the curators of public museums located in
58       Kansas.
