  9             AN  ACT relating to registers of deeds; concerning the recordation of
10             plats; amending K.S.A. 19-1207 and repealing the existing section.

12       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
13             Section  1. K.S.A. 19-1207 is hereby amended to read as follows: 19-
14       1207. (a) The register of deeds shall also shall keep a large, well-bound
15       book, in which shall be platted all maps of towns, villages or additions to
16       the same within the county, together with the description, acknowledg-
17       ment or other writing thereon. The register shall keep an index to such
18       book of plats, which. Such index shall contain the name or names of the
19       proprietor or proprietors of such town, village or addition and the name
20       of the town, village or addition. No register of deeds shall be bound to
21       perform any of the duties required to be performed by this act, for which
22       a fee is allowed, unless such fee has been paid or tendered.
23             (b) The register of deeds shall not record any plat unless such plat is
24       accompanied by a receipt from the county treasurer for: (1) Payment of
25       at least the first half of all real estate taxes due and owing on land to be
26       platted if such plat is presented for recording between December 20 and
27       June 20 of the next year; and (2) payment of all such real estate taxes if
28       such plat is presented for recording on and after June 20 but before De-
29       cember 20 of the same year.
30             (c) The record of plats and indexes required by this section may be
31       kept in bound paper books, plat cabinets or in another manner the manner
32       provided by the open records act or as otherwise authorized by statute. 
33       Sec.  2. K.S.A. 19-1207 is hereby repealed.
34        Sec.  3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
35       publication in the statute book.
