  9             AN  ACT concerning surveyors; authorizing creation of surveyor districts.

11       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
12             Section  1. (a) The board of county commissioners of any two or more
13       counties, by adoption of a joint resolution, may unite to form a surveyor
14       district and employ a surveyor for such district. The joint resolution shall:
15             (1) Fix the salary of the district surveyor and the portion thereof
16       which each county shall pay;
17             (2) fix the terms and conditions of employment of the district
18       surveyor;
19             (3) provide a method for altering the boundaries of and the dissolu-
20       tion of the surveyor district; and
21             (4) provide any other provision deemed necessary.
22             (b) In the absence of a specific provision in a joint resolution adopted
23       pursuant to subsection (a), the boards of county commissioners shall act
24       jointly as a district governing body and shall be subject to the provisions
25       of other laws relating to county surveyors appointed for one county.
26             (c) No person shall be eligible for employment as a district surveyor
27       unless such person is a land surveyor licensed pursuant to K.S.A. 74-7001
28       et seq., and amendments thereto.
29             (d) The boundaries of any surveyor district created pursuant to sub-
30       section (a) shall not be altered for at least one year following the date of
31       the adoption of the resolution by the counties creating the district.
32        Sec.  2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
33       publication in the statute book.
