11 AN ACT
concerning school districts; relating to membership on boards
12 of education; amending
K.S.A. 72-7901 and repealing the existing
13 section.

15 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Kansas:
16 Section
1. K.S.A. 72-7901 is hereby amended to read as follows:
72-
17 7901. (a) The governing body of a
unified school district is and shall be
18 a board of education composed of seven
(7) members, except as is spe-
19 cifically otherwise provided in K.S.A.
72-5333b, and amendments thereto.
20 The members may be elected by any
combination of method of election
21 and voting plan authorized by law, and
shall serve for a term of four (4)
22 years.

(b) No person who is a professional employee
or administrative Ex-
24 cept as provided in subsection (c),
no employee of a unified school
25 district may be a member of the board of
education of the unified school
26 district by which such person is
employed. For the purpose of this
sub-
27 section, the terms professional
employee and administrative employee
28 have the meanings respectively
ascribed thereto in K.S.A. 72-5413, and
29 amendments
thereto.
30 (c) Any employee of a
unified school district who, on the effec-
31 tive date of this act, currently
serves as a member of the board of
32 education of such unified school
district shall be permitted to serve
33 in such capacity until an eligible
successor is elected or appointed
34 in accordance with the provisions of
K.S.A. 72-7902 and amend-
35 ments thereto.
36 Sec. 2. K.S.A. 72-7901 is hereby
repealed.
37 Sec. 3. This act shall
take effect and be in force from and after its
38 publication in the statute book.
