10             AN  ACT repealing K.S.A. 22-2501; concerning crimes, criminal pro-
11             cedure and punishment; relating to searches incident to a lawful arrest;
12             amending K.S.A. 22-2501 and repealing the existing section.

14       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
15             Section  1. K.S.A. 22-2501 is hereby amended to read as follows: 22-
16       2501. When a lawful arrest is effected a law enforcement officer may
17       reasonably search the person arrested and the area within such person's
18       immediate presence for the purpose of
19             (a) Protecting the officer from attack;
20             (b) Preventing the person from escaping; or
21             (c) Discovering the fruits, instrumentalities, or evidence of the a
22       crime. 
23       Sec.  2. Section 1. K.S.A. 22-2501 is hereby repealed.
24        Sec.  3. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
25       publication in the statute book.
