9 A
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION encouraging health care providers
10 to test pregnant women
for HIV.

12 WHEREAS, The
phenomenon in today's society of HIV (human im-
13 munodeficiency virus) infection and the
lethality of AIDS (acquired im-
14 mune deficiency syndrome) is well known;
and
15 WHEREAS, Much
money and research have been devoted to provid-
16 ing a cure for these conditions and to
lessen the effects thereof on the
17 human body; and
18 WHEREAS, The
Kansas legislature recognizes that there exists new
19 medications which fight this disease and in
particular, with proper pre-
20 natal treatment, lessen the possibility of
a pregnant women passing on
21 her HIV condition to her newborn child:
Now, therefore,
22 Be it resolved by
the House of Representatives of the State of Kansas,
23 the Senate concurring
therein: That the Kansas Legislature encourages
24 health care providers, particularly those
specializing in prenatal care, to
25 provide information to their patients
regarding HIV and AIDS and to
26 encourage pregnant women to undergo testing
for HIV infection; and
27 Be it further
resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to
pro-
28 vide a copy of this resolution to the
Secretary of the Kansas Department
29 of Health and Environment and to the
Presidents of the Kansas Medical
30 Society and the Kansas Osteopathy
Society.
