  9             AN  ACT enacting the student right to learn act.

11       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
12             Section  1. (a)All students shall be educated in a liberal arts curricu-
13       lum consisting of essential, academic knowledge in order to provide each
14       student with the foundational preparedness to reach such student's in-
15       dividual potential and to continue that education at a four-year university,
16       should the student so choose.
17             (b) The state board of education shall identify the components of a
18       core curriculum from the various learning disciplines, including, but not
19       limited to: Math, science, language arts, literature, history, social studies
20       and the fine arts.
21             (c) High academic standards and assessments shall be constructed
22       upon a foundation of essential competencies and accreditation shall be
23       based on the measurement of academic improvement by each individual
24       student.
25        Sec.  2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
26       publication in the statute book.
