  9             AN  ACT concerning schools; prohibiting the employment of certain
10             persons.

12       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
13             Section  1. (a) The employment of and the performance of work by
14       a person sentenced to the custody of the secretary of corrections or to
15       the custody of the sheriff of a county in any school building or on school
16       property during school hours or at school supervised activities is hereby
17       prohibited. No board of education of any school district shall employ or
18       allow the performance of work by a person sentenced to the custody of
19       the secretary of corrections or to the custody of the sheriff of a county in
20       any school building or on school property during school hours or at school
21       supervised activities.
22             (b) As used in this section, the term "school building" means any
23       enclosed building used for pupil attendance purposes by the board of
24       education of a unified school district. The term school building does not
25       include a building, or part thereof, used for residential purposes or leased
26       from the school district for nonschool sponsored activities.
27        Sec.  2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
28       publication in the statute book.
