  9             AN  ACT concerning crimes and punishment; establishing the crime of
10             battery against a sports official.

12       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
13             Section  1. (a) Battery against a sports official is a battery, as defined
14       in K.S.A. 21-3412 and amendments thereto, committed against a sports
15       official while such official is officiating at an athletic game or contest or
16       committed against a sports official for actions or judgments arising out of
17       and in the course of officiating at an athletic game or contest.
18             (b) Battery against a sports official is a class B, person misdemeanor.
19       Upon conviction of a violation of this section, a person shall be fined not
20       less than $500, nor more than $2,000.
21             (c) As used in this section, "sports official" means a person who ad-
22       ministers the rules of an athletic game or contest.
23        Sec.  2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
24       publication in the statute book.
