  9             AN  ACT relating to property taxation; concerning the exemption of res-
10             idential property from the statewide school levy; amending K.S.A. 1998
11             Supp. 79-201x and repealing the existing section.

13       Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
14             Section  1. K.S.A. 1998 Supp. 79-201x is hereby amended to read as
15       follows: 79-201x. For taxable years 1998 and 1999 and 2000, the following
16       described property, to the extent herein specified, shall be and is hereby
17       exempt from the property tax levied pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A.
18       1998 Supp. 72-6431, and amendments thereto: Property used for resi-
19       dential purposes to the extent of $20,000 $40,000 of its appraised
20       valuation. 
21       Sec.  2. K.S.A. 1998 Supp. 79-201x is hereby repealed.
22        Sec.  3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
23       publication in the statute book.
