A Resolution proclaiming Ellinwood as the home of the Wheat Bowl.
WHEREAS, Ellinwood, Kansas, is home to some of the country's finest
wheat; and
WHEREAS, The quality of that wheat is matched by the positive attitude
of the community; and
WHEREAS, Ellinwood's citizens allow themselves to dream and have the
persistence to make their dreams a reality; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of Ellinwood in 1995 began the first NAIA
Division II sanctioned bowl game, known as the Wheat Bowl; and
WHEREAS, The people came together to support small colleges and to
promote scholarships to those colleges; they secured opponents from mid-
western colleges and set in motion all the details necessary to host the first
Wheat Bowl; and
WHEREAS, The citizens' ``can do'' attitude has carried the Wheat Bowl
through snow and wind, through heat and humidity, through every kind of
adverse condition; and
WHEREAS, Those who dreamed the dream had the pleasure of seeing
football fans from across the state, marching bands by the dozen and spec-
tators gathered to watch their favorite sport: Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas: That the community
of Ellinwood, Kansas, be duly honored and officially proclaimed as the home
of the Wheat Bowl; and
Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of the Senate be directed to
provide an enrolled copy of this resolution to the Wheat Bowl Board of
Directors President, J.D. Gilmer; Vice-President/Treasurer, Frank Koelsch;
Secretary, Joseph Curtiss; and board members: George Miller, Jr., Stanley
O. Isern, John DeBusk, Todd Morgenstern, Joseph M. Hickel, Beverly Zim-
merman, Al Hammersmith, Jerry Menges, and Toby Johnson, all in care of
Wheat Bowl, Inc., P. O. Box 115, Ellinwood, Kansas 67526.
