A Resolution congratulating and commending the Derby High School Marching Band.
WHEREAS, The Derby High School Marching Band represented
Kansas and a five-state area at the 109th Tournament of Roses Parade on
January 1, 1998, at Pasadena, California; and
WHEREAS, The Derby High School Marching Band was given great
support and assistance from the Derby schools and the Derby community
in planning and financing the band's trip to the Rose Bowl Parade; and
WHEREAS, The Derby High School Marching Band members not
only were exemplary in their musical activities but exhibited good man-
ners and citizenship while representing their school, community and
state; and
WHEREAS, By proclamation, Governor Bill Graves designated Jan-
uary 2, 1998, as Derby High School Marching Band Day: Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas: That we congrat-
ulate and commend the Derby High School Marching Band for its par-
ticipation in the 1998 Tournament of Roses Parade; and
Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of the Senate be directed
to send an enrolled copy of this resolution to Dennis Shoemaker, Super-
intendent, Derby Public Schools, USD 260 Sedgwick County, 120 E.
Washington, Derby, Kansas 67037-1489.
