AN ACT concerning the Kansas animal health
board; relating to mem-
10 bership and
appointment; providing for members representing the
11 general public;
amending K.S.A. 74-4001 and repealing the existing
12 section.

14 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Kansas:
15 Section 1. K.S.A. 74-4001 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
16 74-4001. There is hereby created a Kansas
animal health board, which
17 shall consist of seven (7)
nine members of which one member shall be
18 the president of the Kansas livestock
association and six (6) eight members
19 shall be appointed by the governor in
accordance with this section. The
20 members so appointed shall represent the
major species or phases of the
21 livestock industry. Each appointive
member, other than one representing
22 the general public, shall be
selected from a list of three (3) qualified
23 persons for each such appointment submitted
to the governor by the
24 board of directors of the Kansas livestock
association. The appointive
25 members of the board shall be appointed for
a term of three (3) years,
26 except that, within thirty (30)
days after the effective date of this act, the
27 six (6) the two
appointive members representing the general public shall
28 be appointed for terms as follows:
Two (2) members for terms ending
29 July 1, 1970; two (2) members for
terms ending July 1, 1971; and two (2)
30 members for terms ending July 1,
1972 One public member shall be ap-
31 pointed for a term ending July 1, 2000,
and one member shall be appointed
32 for a term ending July 1, 2001.
Whenever a vacancy shall occur on said
33 commission occurs on
the Kansas animal health board, by reason of the
34 expiration of an appointive member's term
of office, the governor shall
35 appoint a successor of like qualifications
in the manner and for the term
36 of office prescribed
herein in this section. In case of a
vacancy in the
37 office of any appointive member of the
board before the expiration of his
38 the member's term, the governor
shall appoint a successor of like quali-
39 fications for the remainder of the
unexpired term. Members of the com-
40 mission holding office at the time
this act takes effect on the effective date
41 of this act shall continue in office
until their successors are appointed and
42 qualified.
43 Sec. 2. K.S.A. 74-4001 is
hereby repealed.

1 Sec. 3. This act shall
take effect and be in force from and after its
2 publication in the statute book.
