AN ACT concerning community colleges; revising
the definition of credit
10 hour; amending K.S.A.
71-601 and repealing the existing section.

12 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Kansas:
13 Section 1. K.S.A.
71-601 is hereby amended to read as follows: 71-
14 601. ``Credit hour'' means one hour
of instruction per week for 18 weeks
15 or the equivalent thereof
the basic unit of collegiate level instruction, as
16 determined by the state board, in a
subject or course offered at a level
17 not higher than those subjects or courses
normally offered to freshmen
18 and sophomores in four-year institutions of
postsecondary education
19 which subject or course is approved by the
state board. Credit hour does
20 not include within its meaning any
hour of instruction in a subject or
21 course taken by a student enrolled for
audit or in any subject or course
22 not approved by the state board. The state
board, in consultation with
23 the state board of regents, shall determine
whether the subjects and
24 courses offered in the community colleges
are at the level of freshmen
25 and sophomore subjects and courses offered
in the state educational in-
26 stitutions of postsecondary
education and shall not approve any subject
27 or course offered at a higher level.
28 Sec. 2. K.S.A.
71-601 hereby repealed.
29 Sec. 3. This act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
30 publication in the statute book.
