9 AN ACT concerning the county treasurer; relating to vacancies in such
10 office; relating to persons eligible to hold such office; amending K.S.A.
11 19-504 and repealing the existing section; also repealing K.S.A. 19-
12 501a.

14 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
15 Section 1. K.S.A. 19-504 is hereby amended to read as follows: 19-
16 504. In case the office of county treasurer shall become vacant, there shall
17 be appointed a qualified elector of the county successor to perform the
18 duties of such treasurer, and the person so appointed, upon giving bond,
19 with the like sureties and conditions as that required in county treasurer's
20 bonds, and in such sum as the board of county commissioners shall direct,
21 shall be invested with all the duties of such treasurer. If the vacancy occurs
22 on or after May 1 of the second year of the term, the person so appointed
23 shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term and until a successor
24 is elected and qualifies. If the vacancy occurs before May 1 of the second
25 year of the term, the person appointed to fill the vacancy shall serve until
26 a successor is elected and qualifies at the next general election to serve
27 the remainder of the unexpired term. Nomination and election of such
28 successor shall be in the same manner as nomination and election of a
29 county treasurer for a regular term. Appointments hereunder shall be
30 made in the manner provided by law for filling vacancies in the office of
31 member of the house of representatives.
32 Sec. 2. K.S.A. 19-501a and 19-504 are hereby repealed.
33 Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
34 publication in the statute book.
