AN ACT relating to the Kansas highway patrol; concerning the sale of
personal sidearms.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
Section 1. (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of the state surplus
property act, the superintendent of the Kansas highway patrol may sell
the personal sidearm of a trooper or other sworn officer of the Kansas
highway patrol to: (1) Such trooper or officer upon the retirement of such
trooper or officer; or (2) a member of the immediate family of a trooper
or officer who dies while a member of the Kansas highway patrol.
(b) A sale of a personal sidearm under subsection (a) shall be for an
amount of not less than the replacement cost of such sidearm.
(c) The proceeds from the sale of personal sidearms shall be depos-
ited in the state treasury and credited to the Kansas highway patrol gen-
eral fees fund.
Sec. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
publication in the statute book.
