9 AN ACT concerning social welfare; relating to transitional medical care
10 services; health care coverage for children; amending K.S.A. 1996
11 Supp. 39-7,122 and repealing the existing section.

13 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
14 Section 1. K.S.A. 1996 Supp. 39-7,122 is hereby amended to read as
15 follows: 39-7,122. (a) Within the limits of appropriations therefor, the
16 secretary of social and rehabilitation services shall provide transitional
17 medical care services, including extended medical care services under
18 KanWork, under the medical care plan for medical assistance adopted by
19 the secretary. The transitional medical care services shall be provided for
20 not to exceed 24 months after a recipient of assistance becomes employed
21 and is no longer eligible for cash assistance unless the recipient is oth-
22 erwise covered by health benefits. Such transitional medical care services
23 shall be provided with a 25% copayment requirement during the 13th
24 month through the 24th month.
25 (b) Within the limits of appropriations therefor, the transitional med-
26 ical services shall include state assistance for not to exceed 12 months for
27 not to exceed 50% of the premium cost for health insurance coverage for
28 children in families which have earnings of less than 185% of the federal
29 poverty rate, but who are otherwise ineligible for federal medicaid ben-
30 efits.
31 (c) As used in this section, terms have the meanings provided by
32 K.S.A. 39-702, and amendments thereto.
33 Sec. 2. K.S.A. 1996 Supp. 39-7,122 is hereby repealed.
34 Sec. 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
35 publication in the statute book.
