AN ACT concerning the office of lieutenant governor; providing for the
  appointment of a successor under certain circumstances.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Kansas:
  Section 1.  Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of lieutenant
governor and there is not a vacancy in the office of governor, the governor
shall nominate a lieutenant governor who shall take office upon confir-
mation by a majority of the members elected (or appointed) and qualified
of the senate and the house of representatives. Upon confirmation by the
senate and the house of representatives as provided in this section and
qualification for such office, the person confirmed shall serve in the office
of lieutenant governor for the remainder of the current term of office
and until a successor is elected and qualified.
  Sec. 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its
publication in the statute book.
